We have an exciting opportunity for an experienced HR professional to lead and shape the HR function in a busy academic department. The HR Manager leads the HR function of the School of Archaeology, overseeing the provision of an effective HR service and ensuring good practice across the School. The role includes recruitment and selection, dealing with contracts, staff on-boarding and off-boarding, employee relations, training & development, managing changes including in relation to diversity, providing advice to managers and dealing with general HR issues relating to employment law and immigration regulations. Reporting to and working closely with the Head of Administration and Finance, and the Head of School, the HR Manager works closely and collaboratively with the School’s professional services team.

This role is a full-time secondment cover until 28 February 2026. 

About You

We’re looking for an efficient and solutions-driven professional with:

-  A degree or equivalent professional experience

-  HR experience with the ability to manage an efficient HR operation in a complex organisation

-  Sound judgement in HR matters with the ability to provide persuasive and effective advice

-  Ability to be professional, tactful, discreet and approachable

-  Ability to clearly and accurately communicate processes and procedures verbally and in writing, with ability to influence and persuade

managers

-  Collaborative approach, with the ability to develop professional and effective working relationships with key stakeholders
