Dr Haruda has a number of years of experience in academia, and has held several postdoctoral roles. She currently holds a JRF at Wolfson College alongside her position here at the School of Archaeology.

She is responsible for overseeing all grant and research activity within the School of Archaeology. This includes evaluating applications, making recommendations to the Research Committee, and supporting researchers in developing competitive proposals. She provides high-level advice on costing, eligibility, funding strategy, and long-term planning, and she contributes to shaping the School’s research portfolio and diversifying its income streams.

She also leads on REF2029 outputs activity within the School and advises staff on Open Access requirements and the use of Symplectic Elements. She supports broader research governance and the administration of the School’s publications.

 

Her research Interests include: Zooarchaeology, Geometric Morphometrics, Palaeoecology, Eurasian Archaeology, Digital Archaeology

Research Profile

I am a zooarchaeologist (PhD Archaeology 2015, University of Exeter) with a speciality in geometric morphometric methods. My research focuses upon detecting domestic animal breeds in the archaeological record in order to evaluate the impact of ecology, connectivity and cultural integration upon human economy and subsistence over the longue durée. I have worked from contexts ranging from prehistoric Final Bronze Age societies in the Central Asian steppe to contemporary historic industrial pig breeding in pre- and post-war Germany and am particularly interested in the impact of trade and disease upon domestic animal pheno- and genotypes.
