Art; terracotta; Hellenistic; gender; race; sex and sexuality; feminist theory
My research interests lie within the sector of cultural art history, specifically that of the Hellenistic world. This interest is guided by modern concepts such as race, gender, and sexuality. My DPhil project aims to analyse portrayals of Black women in Hellenistic terracottas to judge how these women were characterised by the leading class of male citizens and why, and to begin to recognise what life may have been like for them.
